CBT is the most widely utilised online therapy. It is evidence-based for a range of conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, phobias, ADHD, and eating disorders. CBT can be delivered through live video sessions.
DBT is particularly effective for individuals experiencing emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and borderline personality disorder. Online DBT typically involves a combination of skills-based group sessions (covering mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness) alongside individual support.
MBCT integrates mindfulness practices with cognitive behavioural techniques to prevent relapse in depression and manage anxiety and stress.
ACT focuses on psychological flexibility, helping individuals accept difficult thoughts and emotions while committing to values-based actions. ACT is effective for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, ADHD, and trauma. It is highly adaptable for online delivery, through live sessions, digital exercises, and self-paced modules.
This modality explores unconscious processes, attachment patterns, and early life experiences. It is suitable for individuals with longstanding relational difficulties or emotional distress. Video-based sessions allow for the therapeutic relationship and reflective work to develop effectively.
Narrative therapy helps individuals re-author their experiences and externalism problems, which can be particularly empowering for those with trauma or identity-related difficulties. It lends itself well to online formats through video sessions and creative exercises.
Approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method can be delivered via video platforms, supporting couples to improve communication, resolve conflict, and enhance emotional connection.
Systemic therapy involving multiple family members is highly suitable for online delivery, particularly when participants are in different locations.
Evidence-based parenting programmes, such as Triple P and The Incredible Years, are available online. These are particularly useful for managing ADHD, ASD, and conduct-related difficulties. (this is a low level intervention that you can get support workers to do they don’t need to be accredited for this course) same with decider skills for children.
Online coaching supports individuals with ADHD or executive functioning difficulties to develop practical skills in organization, time management, and self-regulation.
Psychodynamic therapy is a relational and insight-oriented approach that focuses on unconscious processes, early life experiences, and patterns of relating that influence current behaviour and emotional wellbeing. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with longstanding emotional difficulties, interpersonal issues, or recurrent patterns of distress that are not easily explained by surface-level symptoms.
